This promotion experienced a few primary adjustments in the following year. It started promoting fights with the local Coliseum. It also began changing the stations the program was aired on.

When TBS got put on satellite television in 1976, this offered the place the market of having their show broadcast to tv all over the US. The group became the first NWA marketing to be passed on across the nation. People with the managers of NWA were disappointed, however Barnett promoted simply because he was just utilizing Atlanta centered opponents, that usually there was no issues.

Whether this was true about Barnet actually using the marketing national is a matter of dispute for most. Roddy Piper said that he was in deed doing this but, had been stoped because of fears involving crossing crime bosses that were associated with the games. Throughout the 70s, GCW was one of the primary shows in which kept TBS alive.

During 1982, GCW was changed to the World Championship Wrestling. GCW included programs in the northern states; the activity went back to Dayton in January of 83 after being banned in Dayton for a period of five years. The ring announcer there was a Dayton native. Mr. Barnett was soon driven away in the great power struggle of eighty three. This carved a path for the biggest exchange in wrestling heritage, that involved the then-little recognized regional support system, Mr. Vince McMahon.

In July of 84 GCW declined from the air when Vince McMahon purchased it and its air time. One lone member from the real GCW cast remained who decided not to quit. Everyone else eventually left in protest to McMahon as well as his new guidelines.
