Important NJ Cheerleading Tips For A Newbie

By Janelle Burnett

If you are planning to participate in NJ cheerleading, then know that it is not the simplest things to do. The prospect of standing in front of the audience or the judges can make you feel nervous. You do not want this as it can make you very nervous. The thing is practice hard and you will make it. Use the following tips to become a better and more competitive cheerleader.

Make sure that you have talked to the coach before try-outs. This is important because it is the coach who understands what is good for the team. Prior preparation, and not waiting to the actual day of try-outs, is very important. It can be weeks before you are ready for the occasion. Know all the requirements in advance before the actual day.

Another important thing would be to talk to your other fellow cheerleaders. If you feel nervous, you will realize that it is not just you alone but most of other cheerleaders as well. From fellow cheerleaders, try to get a friend with whom you can work. This way, both of you will be kept motivated. Also, you will have already known someone at try-outs. This is important in calming your nerves.

Then there is the week of practice. Before try-outs, most squads do have practice sessions. This way, the coach is able to train everyone on skills that are required for try-outs. It is also at this time that the coach can evaluate how good you are at working with others. Take the practice session as the time to make friends as you work hard.

During the practice sessions, you have to have self-confidence. It does not matter that you certainly are the best within the pack. Your attitude and sportsmanship will be very instrumental in ensuring your success in the try-outs. You should also be open and be in a position to try new things. You could think that you are giving your best but the gaffer thinks you would be better in doing another thing. Experiment with new things.

The most important day is the try-outs day. Have plenty of sleep prior to this day. This is because you will require a lot of energy and vibrancy to endear yourself to the judges. The clothes which you wear are also very important. They need to fit. If they do not fit, it will be hard seeing motions. Comfort in those clothes is also vital.

Take some deep breaths before you are called upon to perform. As you inhale, tell yourself that it is possible. This is mental preparation. If you go there not believing in yourself, then you may not make it in the long run. Also, you have to be very enthusiastic when you are getting to the floor. You need to create an impression in the judges and the audience I your ability. Smile naturally and not fake a smile.

Loud and clear voice is of great importance in the actual NJ cheerleading championship. Refrain from chopping or signing your words. They need to be sharp and clear. Make a point to pronounce the Ts and Rs clearly. When performing, use expressions. This way, you will not sound like a robot. Neither the judges nor the audience love monotone voice. Fell free to ask anything if the judges are not clear.
