Details On The Washer Toss Game

The washer toss game is commonly known as washer pitching. This is a lot like playing horseshoes and includes two teams with two players each. These players throw the washers in the area of the target box during each turn. To score points, the pieces must go into the box, within a foot of it, or in the can that inside.

Points are given for each round. Metal washers used as game pieces are typically two inches in diameter. They are are thrown toward the hole, which is typically marked by a can or PVC pipe that is in a target box. These boxes come in an assortment of shapes and sizes. It is standard for them to be 16x16x4 inch units for one-hole washers. Targets have a cup placed inside and are usually spaced out more than 20 feet from each other.

Players have to stand behind or next to boxes when they take their turn. Most make tosses underhand. Scoring is similar to that done in horseshoes. The team that throws second may rebut points earned by the team that went first. A single point is issued for all of the non-rebutted pieces that land in the washer box. Most games last until a team reaches 21 points.

There are variations in the game. The distance of a throw, washer size, configuration of a box, and size and number of holes are just some of the possible differences. It may also have a different name, rules and setup in other regions.

The equipment that is needed for a standard game: washers and boxes. Two boxes are needed, which include wood, pipe and carpet materials. Four washers are needed. These may be made from brass or steel. To designate between teams, two little opposing holes can be drilled into two of these pieces.

In general, boxes are put 30 feet apart from the front of one to the other. They should be placed at ground level. It is recommended that the targets be placed in south and north directions so that players are not distracted by sunlight throughout the game.

Players will throw their pieces with the objective of landing them in the pipe or box. Players are permitted to make strides forward as they toss, but at least one of their feet has to stay behind the target box. One player on the team tosses his or her two pieces first and the second team follows. People may choose to throw both at the same time, but this is not recommended. The style of throw is the preference of the particular player.

Only one team or player scores every round. A single point is given for tosses that make it within a foot of the box, next to it or under it. Two points are awarded for tosses that make it to the edge and three are given to those that land inside the target box but not inside the pipe. Five points is the highest allotment that goes to throws that go inside the pipe.

Washer toss game is much like horseshoes. This game is traditionally played between two teams with two players, but there are many different variations in rules and regulations. To score points, individuals must place a washer within a foot of the box, inside it, or in the can inside the box.
