Interval Training - A Great Way To Burn Fat

By Pete Fry

There are many ways to burn fat, but interval training is definitely one of the best! Interval training is basically periods of work followed by periods of rest. Interval workouts are typically short, sharp and intense, and its this intensity that brings the fat loss results!

If you've been trying to burn fat by jogging then think again! The problem with slow cardio like jogging is that you have to do a lot of it before you burn any fat. An interval workout, on the other hand, can take only 15 minutes!

Interval training can be performed in a number of ways and you can use a number of different exercises when using intervals. Running, squats, pushups and dumbbell exercises can all be used in an interval session, but the more explosive the movements are, the better.

To perform a running interval workout, conduct a full warm up and then complete the following 4 times - Sprint 200m, then rest 90 seconds.

When you sprint, go as quickly as you can as training like this works your muscles hard, meaning you'll generate lots of lactic acid - a precursor to fat loss! You don't have to stick to sprinting though - you can also use exercises such as The Burpee.

Burpees are a great bodyweight conditioning exercise. To perform the burpee, start in a standing position, then crouch and place your hands down on the floor in front. Kick back your legs so that your body is straight - like he top of a press up. Then drop down to floor and do a pressup. Kick your legs back in, stand back up, jump, then clap your hands above your head as you jump.

A burpee interval workout would look like this - complete as many burpees as possible in a minute. Rest 1 to 2 minutes. Repeat this sequence 3 to 5 times. Burpees are extremely challenging so go steady if its your first time!

Using interval training is a great way to burn fat as your body is working at high intensity - one of secrets to fat loss success!
