When one is looking for advice on how to choose and buy P90X equipment, it is important to assess where one is in the regime. P90X is one of the most intense home exercise programs that boast claims of getting a person ripped in 90 days. This program is not for people who are out of shape, nor is it for people who do not have the wherewithal to complete the program.

If you are new to this program, you can expect to exercise around 5-7 days a week. Each DVD video takes around 1 hour or so to complete. The exercises are extremely intense, and you are advised to take a fitness test to ensure that you can progress through the program successfully.

There are 12 videos, 100 pages of guidelines, and a nutritional plan that is 113 pages; plus a 90 day calendar. It is advised that you get additional equipment to increase the effectiveness of your exercises. For example, a set of dumbbells, resistance band, fitness mat, and a pull-up bar would be ideal.

There are various places where you get the system; online, infomercials, and fitness shops. Depends on where you get the program, typically a 90 day warranty is included, but you may have to pay shipping costs if you return it. The program is a circuit format where you would complete intense exercises one after the other with very little rest between.

Each DVD targets specific areas of the body. For example, one DVD targets the chest and the back; back and legs; arms and legs; triceps, shoulders, and chest and biceps. Other DVDs are focused on calisthenics or short-twitch muscles also known as plyometrics. There are other things that are incorporated such as Kenpo, cardio, yoga, stretches, kickboxing, karate, etc.

It takes an hour or so to complete the chest and back video, which incorporates pushup variations. Wide stance and close-hand pushups are a focus in the arms and chest videos. The wide stance pushup targets the chest and back muscles. The diamond pushup targets triceps and biceps.

There are pull-down exercises that are done with resistance bands with the hands at shoulder width, narrower, wider, or even reverse grips. Rowing exercises are completed with resistance bands and dumbbells. The plyometrics is the most intense DVD out of the system.

You typically do a warm-up before moving on to the meat of the videos; cardiovascular exercises that get your blood flowing from the lower body. Because the warm-up is an intense cardiovascular exercise focused on the lower body, it is recommended that you get shock absorbing shoes to soften your landings. If you have lower back, hip, knee, or ankle complications, you should skip this part.

Even the yoga section is intense. It takes 90 minutes to do, and despite popular belief, it is one of the most challenging parts of the video. If you are not accustomed to the conventional yoga exercises, you may find difficulty in completing the exercise at first. After a couple of weeks, the videos get easier. If you buy P90X equipment, you can increase the effectiveness of each exercise as well as safety.
